What is Middle Grade Monday?
Middle Grade Monday is a weekly meme where you spot like one middle grade book (or series) on, well, Monday! It can be a book (or series) that you’ve read or one that is sitting on your TBR shelf. It’s completely up to you. The point of this meme is to showcase middle grade books that people wouldn’t have sought out otherwise.
This week I have a very special middle grade series to showcase. It’s by Madonna. Yeah, that Madonna. I feel like there aren’t enough people talking about this book series. It just isn’t very well-known. The series I’m talking about is The English Roses. This series follows five tweens; Binah, Grace, Amy, Charlotte and Nichole. They are five best friends who live in England.
Synopsis’ 
Book One: 
Welcome to the world of the English Roses! Meet each of the English Roses—Nicole, Amy, Charlotte, Grace and Binah—and learn all of their vital statistics. From each girl’s full name, to her favorite pet, to her worst habits, this question-and-answer book will introduce readers to Madonna’s delightfully charming girls. The book has a section for each Rose, plus one for the reader to fill out, and features gorgeous highquality four-color art!
Book Two: 
The English Roses promised to be friends for life, but now something could be coming between them. Grace?s mom is acting funny, always cleaning the house, and tidying up. Something is up, and the Roses suspect the worst: Grace?s mom is getting ready for a move. Could Grace be moving away from the rest of the Roses? The rest of the Roses need to come up with ways to keep the group together . . . and fast!
There are eight books in this series. The picture shown to the left is of the first four books. 
I love this series because of the friendships. I’m eighteen and enjoy this series very much, but some people might not be able to handle the cliches of the book. The friendships jump off the page but their problems can, sometimes, be one dimensional. Keep in mind they are just tweens!!!

  1. I read these books back in elementary school, but I hadn’t thought about them in a while before reading this post! I while I don’t doubt you about the cliches, I don’t remember being bothered by them – I may be if I read them now, but let’s not think about that. 🙂 I’ll just keep my fond memories of this series. And besides, I love the illustrations – the books are worth a read just for the opportunity of looking at the artwork. Thanks for inspiring a short trip down memory lane!

  3. Those covers are so amazingly intricate!! I never really read ‘kid books’ when I was younger; I pretty much started out with adult books (I had quite an advanced reading level lol). Same with movies actually – all these kid shows everyone watched, I never actually saw. I grew up on Die Hard and Terminator haha

  4. I had no idea Madonna had published books! I love finding out about celebrities who have published books. A year ago I found out Hilary Duff had published a book called Elixer (a series, actually, i think) and I just had to read it! I’m not sure these books are something I would enjoy though. Great post! 🙂

    1. They do have a lot of cliches in them, but then again, they were written for younger readers. 🙂

      I enjoyed them when I was ten (or eleven). I got the first four, that were out at the time, and fell in love with the characters. I wasn’t a big reader at the time, so there is no telling how much I might have disliked them if I was a regular reader. 🙂
