What is Middle Grade Monday?
Middle Grade Monday is a weekly meme where you spot like one middle grade book (or series) on, well, Monday! It can be a book (or series) that you’ve read or one that is sitting on your TBR shelf. It’s completely up to you. The point of this meme is to showcase middle grade books that people wouldn’t have sought out otherwise.
Life’s no fairy tale for Jack. After all, his father’s been missing ever since that incident with the beanstalk and the giant, and his grandfather keeps pushing him to get out and find a princess to rescue. Who’d want to rescue a snobby, entitled princess anyway? Especially one that falls out of the sky wearing a shirt that says “Punk Princess,” and still denies she’s royalty. In fact, May doesn’t even believe in magic. Yeah, what’s that about? May does need help though–a huntsman is chasing her, her grandmother has been kidnapped, and Jack thinks it’s all because of the Wicked Queen . . . mostly because May’s grandmother might just be the long-lost Snow White. Jack and May’s thrillingly hilarious adventure combines all the classic stories—fractured as a broken magic mirror—into the first of an epic new series of novels for the ages.
James Riley’s Half Upon A Time series is one of my favorite series of all time, not just middle grade series – but of ALL the series on my shelves. This series is one that I hold dear to my heart because it got me back into middle grade books. I love these books SOOOO much!
This series follows Jack and May as they uncover secrets from a slew of fairy tales. In this trilogy every fairy tale imaginable intertwines with each other. As you can imagine, it is epic!
My reasons for loving this trilogy are endless. Jack and May are too funny together. They crack me up. Sometimes I pull the books off my shelves just to flip through them. In fact, I haven’t finished the trilogy yet. James has a new book coming out… one day (there is not a publication date currently). I can’t end my journey with Jack and May just yet. I own the last book but cannot bring myself to read it. Not until his new book releases!!
Who is James Riley???
James Riley currently lives in Los Angeles, where he’s able to fly for short distances — the unimaginative call it jumping. James is legally obligated to claim that he doesn’t believe in magic, in spite of the truth.
… He’s also legally obligated to deny that wink.
This is James’s first novel under this name, despite ghostwriting for three presidents, two members of royalty and one very imaginary bird. He apologizes for any inconvenience.
